Suspect In South LA Shooting Of Boy, 14, Still At Large

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A woman suspected of shooting and critically wounding a 14-year-old boy in South Los Angeles remained at large Thursday.

The shooting outside a liquor store in the 6400 block of Vermont Avenue occurred about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

According to police, the female suspect was apparently inside the store before she approached the boy and shot him multiple times.

Authorities suspect that the shooting was gang-related.

The suspect was described by witnesses as a heavyset woman in her 20s and was last seen wearing a pink long-sleeve shirt or sweater.

According to police, she apparently jumped into a four-door white Honda and fled east on 64th Street.

The boy, whose name has been withheld, remains hospitalized in critical condition, said Los Angeles police Officer Bruce Borihanh.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact LAPD's 77th-area Gang Investigation Detectives Villalobos or Mendoza at (323) 789-4845.
