Arson Suspect Arrested Following Several Early Morning Fires In Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — Police have arrested a 22-year-old Sunland resident for arson after several fires were started overnight in Hollywood.

"We had a series of fires within 15 minutes in a five block area here in Hollywood," Capt. Jamie Moore of The Los Angeles Fire Department told CBS2.

The first fire broke out around 1:15 a.m. at an apartment building at 1434 North Fuller Avenue, fire officials said. The fire destroyed four vehicles in an underground parking garage before it spread to the building's first floor.

The building's occupants got out safely before the fire was extinguished at 1:32 a.m., officials said.

Within minutes of the apartment building fire, two dumpster fires on Poinsettia Place were reported, officials said.

Police arrested Samuel Arrington around 1:30 a.m. in the area of Sunset Boulevard and Sycamore Avenue after he tried light a garbage can on fire at a 7-Eleven and attempted to light up a truck's gas tank.

"We do have eyewitness that were able to identify this individual as being part of the fires," Capt. Moore said.

Arson investigators estimate damages to be more than $100,000.

No injuries were reported.

Arrington's bail was set at $75,000. No motive for the fires was released.
