Manhattan Beach Police, Community Rallies To Support Sons Of Woman Killed In Motorcycle Crash

MANHATTAN BEACH (CBS) —Redondo Beach resident Jennifer Lynn Jensen, 52, was on her way to the market the Friday before Christmas.

She was hit about 3:15 p.m. while riding her motorcycle (and she was wearing a helmet), by a 1997 Toyota driven by a 17-year-old male.

An investigation into the crash continues.

Jensen, a single mother of two, was taken to the hospital with severe head trauma. She later died at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance. She had worked there as a nurse for 20+ years, according to the Daily Breeze.

Jensen also served in the Army for five years and was active in Veteran's affairs.

Her son Shaun, 23, currently attends Santa Monica College. He helps care for his older brother, Alex, who is 25 and mentally challenged. While Alex is described as highly-functioning, he is unable to often care for himself.

Without their mom in the picture, Shaun tells KCAL9's Suzie Suh he and his brother are basically living "hour to hour."

His mom's former colleagues and the police in Huntington Beach have offered "overwhelming" financial and emotional support. But obviously, reports Suh, more needs to be done. Even with their mom, the family was just getting by, he says.

To help Shaun and Alex Jensen:
Make checks payable to the Manhattan Beach Police Officers Association. Mail to P.O. Box 3542, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266. Note on the subject line that the donation is for the Jensen family.
