Man, 48, Fatally Shot By Sheriff's Deputies In Rancho Palos Verdes Identified
RANCHO PALOS VERDES (CBS) — Sheriff's deputies identified the man who they fatally shot in Rancho Palos Verdes Tuesday.
Officials say Robert Evan Larue, 48, was holding a weapon and aiming it at deputies when they shot him.
They also said the deceased had earlier assaulted his 85-year-old father. Larue allegedly assaulted his father at a home in the 29300 block of Golden Meadow Drive around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lt. Mike Rosson.
The victim called authorities from a nearby home, then stayed there.
Before deputies arrived, Larue reportedly called the sheriff's Lomita Station and said he had a high-powered rifle and a pistol and was not going to go back to jail.
When deputies arrived, they found Larue still uncooperative. Larue told deputies he had a Glock, and, while they remained outside, Larue kept going in and out of the house, Rosson said.
Larue emerged from the garage and then went into a shooting stance with the metallic object in his hand.
He drew fire from a deputy fearing for his life, Rosson said.
A weapon was recovered at the scene. (Wednesday evening, the Associated Press reported that Larue was holding a knife.)
Larue was declared dead at the scene at 7:18 p.m., said Deputy Lillian Peck of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau. No deputies were injured.
"There aren't hardly any shootings in Rancho Palos Verdes," noted Sgt. Keith Taylor, the watch commander at the sheriff's Lomita Station.
