Lawmakers Question Cost Of Vernon's Legal Bills

VERNON (CBS) — Lawmakers are questioning the cost of legal bills for the city of Vernon, which is under investigation for its financial dealings.

Vernon paid a law firm nearly $7 million this year, while more than $2 million went to other lawyers and lobbyists defending the city, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Former Attorney General and Vernon ethics adviser Jon Van De Kamp says the legal fees are too high.

Three ex-city officials have already been convicted of misusing public funds.
