Marijuana Operation Busted By OC Police After Pit Bull Attack On Toddler

FULLERTON (CBS) — Investigators were taking a closer look at a marijuana processing operation on Tuesday that was uncovered at a home where a 2-year-old child was attacked by a pit bull.

KNX 1070's Mike Landa reports officers found a "significant quantity" of marijuana when they arrived at the scene.

The boy's mother was house-sitting for a friend in the 2500 block of Lakewood Drive when her son was attacked by the dog and suffered a 7-inch cut on his head just after 10 p.m. Monday, Fullerton police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said.

The toddler's mother heard growling and then the child's scream, Goodrich said.

"She ran back in the room and saw the pit bull standing over the child," said Goodrich. "She was able to shoo the pit bull away, picked her child up, and he was bleeding from the head."

The mother ran with her son to the home of a neighbor, who called paramedics, the sergeant said.

The boy was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange to be treated for the laceration on his head.

While searching the house for the dog, police found a "significant quality of marijuana growing and being processed inside," Goodrich said.

The homeowner has been contacted, but no one has been arrested so far, he said.

Detectives were investigating the marijuana cultivation and looking into possible child endangerment, Goodrich said.

Animal Control officers took custody of the pit bull terrier.
