Overnight Closures Planned For Westbound 60 Freeway

MONTEBELLO (CBS) — Traffic is moving once again on the 60 Freeway as Caltrans prepared to continue its demolition of the remaining section of an overpass that was heavily damaged in a tanker truck fire last week.

Removal of the last portion of the Paramount Boulevard bridge above the westbound lanes will begin at 11 p.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. for the next three days, Caltrans spokesman Patrick Chandler said.

The overnight work will prompt the closure of the westbound lanes between the 605 Freeway and Garfield Avenue. Two eastbound lanes are also set to close, Chandler added.

The freeway was reopened Saturday afternoon ahead of schedule, nearly three after a tanker truck explosion on the busy artery which compromised the bridge's structural integrity. The inferno also prompted the closure of a nearly 10-mile stretch of the freeway.

Caltrans says it will need a total of three nights of overnight closures to complete the work.
