LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A father of four was fatally shot Saturday morning near his Westlake-area home.
The attack on Witmer Street near Third Street occurred about 12:15 a.m., said Los Angeles police Lt. Joy Smith.
The victim, who was later identified as 41-year-old Juan Barrajas, was apparently standing on the sidewalk with another male when a gold-colored vehicle drove by and shot at him.
According to police, Barrajas was hit in the upper torso and was taken to a hospital where he died.
Authorities do not believe the victim had gang affiliations, nor do they believe that he was the intended target.
Barrajas leaves behind a wife and four children, the eldest of which is 18.
Anyone with more information about the incident is asked to contact LAPD’s Rampart station at (213) 484-3400. All tips can be made anonymously.
