‘Occupy’ Protesters Attempt To Shut Down SSA Marine Operations At Long Beach Port

LONG BEACH (CBS) — “Occupy LA” protesters have moved to the Port of Long Beach, where they plan to set up picket lines and garner support from Longshore union workers.

Roughly 100 demonstrators gathered at 5 a.m. to march from Lincoln Park, the site of the “Occupy Long Beach” camp, to the port.

They are attempting to shut down the SSA Marine, which is 51 percent-owned by Goldman Sachs, for a day.

Several union and non-union workers say they will treat the march as a picket line.

Stop giving the ‘occupy protesters’ media coverage. When you do this, they keep getting more fire from the flame. Stop covering these kinds of stories.

You forgot to mention how cops have dogs and are forcing protesters and intimidating people. They are only practicing there rights… that is why this is America. These protestors are not bums… the are college kids, elders, veterans, people that lost there homes and jobs. Xmas spirit? this is your chance America to show your true colors for these people that are fighting a cause. Bums you call them? Try calling more than 14 million Americans who are jobless, homeless people that.

No now they’re people trying to stop honest men and women from doing their jobs. You know, the things these people should be looking for instead of interrupting? Complaining to the system is fine. This is just making it harder for the blue collar workers at the port to do their jobs and feed their families.

As for the police being intimidating, what do you call these yahoos interfering with the people working at the port? I long a time even fifty years ago when the cops would have looked the other way and the longshoreman there could have tossed every one of these fools into the bay and let them swim for it.

These blue collar workers agreed with the movement and they are union workers… which means they make good money whether they work or not… they have more compassion towards the movement.

Please read this open letter written by the port truck drivers whose operations were impacted by this action:

“People that are fighting a cause?” How about “People” destroying other ‘People’s Property at every opportunity?” How about “People ‘Occupying Other People’s Property when asked to leave?” Please, Don’t make me laugh! If these “People” had half the Brains that you claim that they have, they’d be going to Washington D.C. & demanding what they want! However, what are they doing? Obstructing the Free Flow of Commerce & destroying other People’s Property in the process! They’re also asking for things that they know can NEVER be delivered & “Want The World To Be Delivered To Them On A Silver Platter Without Having To Work For It & Have Other People Pay For It!” Besides, I Thought That Your “Savior” (Obama’s Own Supporters Words For Him) Of A President Was Delivering “Hope & Change” To You?” Well, You wanted “Hope & Change” & You Got It! How’s It Working Out For You, “maria?”

How about the protesters in LA stop for a while and help out. Parts of the county were devastated during the recent wind storms and now rain. Clean up efforts are falling behind, there is so much debris. Stop protesting and help out. If you want help help others.

The government employees aren’t working for free and probably getting overtime too, and you want these people to work for free. Real bright, you got one marble rolling around in a tin can there, Einstein.

The longshoreman have compassion toward the movement? No, they have a strong enough union to be alright with missing a day of work. Have them miss two weeks and not get a paycheck, then see how compassionate they are. I get the feeling they’ll be more intimidating than any police officer and his dog when you tell them a bunch of would-be hippies are the reason they’re not getting paid.
