Bishop Montgomery High Cancels Classes Due To Threat Made By Student

TORRANCE (CBS) — A 16-year-old Bishop Montgomery High School sophomore was arrested for allegedly making "criminal threats" against the school on YouTube, police said Monday.

The school was closed Mnday because of concerns about the threat, according to Torrance police Sgt. Steve Jenkinson.

Police withheld the name of the boy, who was taken into custody Sunday, Jenkinson said.

On Saturday, police and school administrators received calls regarding a post on YouTube, which indicated that "something very bad was going to happen at the school on Monday," Jenkinson said.

Officials then decided that the Catholic high school at 5430 Torrance Blvd. would be closed Monday, Jenkinson said.

"The Administration has worked closely over the past few days with the Torrance PD and through their support we can report the situation has been resolved. As you know, the safety of our students is, as always, our first concern," Principal Rosemary Libbon said.

Police Monday morning inspected the campus, but found nothing to indicate a threat, Jenkinson said.

Classes are scheduled to resume Tuesday.
