Deputies Arrest Parolee Accused Of Mugging Elderly OC Woman

SANTA ANA (CBS) — One of two suspects who allegedly mugged a 90-year-old woman and ransacking her Rossmoor home was arrested, sheriff's officials said Thursday.

A 23-year-old parolee from Long Beach was in custody after Orange County sheriff's officials released a sketch of the two suspects.

The other suspect remains at large, sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said.

The victim was confronted by two men when she went outside about 11 a.m. Wednesday to get her newspaper. As one wielded a handgun that he put against her neck, she was ordered her back inside her home in the 11600 block of Weatherby Road.

The pair tied her to a chair and covered her face with a towel, and one of the men watched her while his partner ransacked the home looking for valuables, Amormino said. The men also took bracelets, chains and rings from the victim, ripping her blouse in the process, he said.

One of the men wore plastic surgical gloves and the other had black gloves with white snowflakes on them, Amormino said, adding that they made their getaway in a small, compact white pickup truck.

The victim was "shook up, but not physical hurt," Amormino said.

Tipsters led detectives to the parolee,= whose name is being withheld because of the ongoing investigation.
