Coroner Identifies Woman In Fatal Queen Mary Fall

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The young woman who died after falling from the Queen Mary Tuesday night has been identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner.

Authorities say Kelly Ryann Dorrell, 26, of Long Beach plummeted 75 feet into the water from a third-story railing around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Long Beach police said that Dorrell has been drinking when she allegedly got into an argument with her unidentified boyfriend, climbed onto a railing and fell.

Dorrell's boyfriend dove 15 feet into the water to save her. He was hospitalized with hypothermia and minor injuries.

A Long Beach police officer and a Queen Mary staff member also jumped in the water to try and save Dorrell. They were able to pull her out of a narrow channel between the side of the ship and the pier.

Dorrell was taken to a Long Beach hospital, where she later died.

An autopsy will likely be done Thursday to determine the exact cause of death.

Long Beach police are calling Dorrell's death an apparent accident, not a suicide.
