Dog Helps Deputies Detain Suspected Thief In East Valinda
EAST VALINDA (CBS) — A suspected thief dodged at least one bullet fired in his direction by a sheriff's deputy Saturday in East Valinda.
The deputy-involved shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. near Valley Boulevard and La Seda Road, said Sgt. Gerard Velona.
The incident began when a deputy spotted a man carrying what he suspected to be stolen property, authorities said.
According to authorities, the suspect reportedly fled into a mobile home park where he allegedly pointed a gun at the deputy.
Velona said the deputy defensively fired one round, but did not wound the suspect.
The man was subsequently detained after a police dog found and bit him.
A handgun was recovered at the scene, Velona added.
The suspect, whose name hasn't been released, was taken to a hospital pending booking.
