Raytheon To Arm LASD Patrol Cars With Military-Style Technology

LOS ANGELES (KNX 1070) — Technology perfected on the battlefields of Iraq will soon see its way into patrol cars of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

KNX 1070's Kim Marriner reports that the sophisticated gadgetry – developed by military contractor Raytheon - will be installed in 2,500 patrol cars.

The cost, about $20 million, will allow for faster response times and permit deputies to get data on suspects instantly.

In addition, high-tech computer systems will allows deputies to pull up mug shots, check the FBI database, and even get fingerprint information on the spot.

In the past, this technology was only available to analysts in the sheriff's stations.

Several other policing agencies are currently in talks with Raytheon to obtain similar technology.
