Scharbarth, 34, has been missing since Wednesday night, according to Carlsbad Police Lt. Paul Mendez.

"Police still hold out hope that Scharbarth will be located alive," said Mendez.

Sheriff's deputies from both San Diego and Orange counties were joined by agents with the California Department of Justice in searching for Scharbarth on Friday.

The missing woman apparently obtained a restraining order against Robles, 43, on Nov. 17, said Mendez.

Scharbarth celebrated her 34th birthday on Thanksgiving Day, her family told Sign On San Diego.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to call Carlsbad police at (760) 931-2197.
