College Student Leads Run To Promote Awareness Of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

SANTA BARBARA (CBS) — This Thanksgiving is special for a UC Santa Barbara student because last year, around this holiday, she nearly lost her life to an invisible killer.

Niki Sedaghat nearly died from carbon monoxide poisoning from a faulty wall heater in her family's Beverly Hills home.

The doctors feared Sedaghat would suffer brain damage but she bounced back and went on to organize the Carbon Monoxide Awareness Run.

Sedaghat led 40 people in the first scheduled run, hoping to raise awareness of ways to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning in the home.

She wants to spread the word that the gas company offers free inspections of home heaters. The group also advocates installing state-mandated carbon monoxide detectors.

According to Sedaghat, these quick solutions could save the lives of those you love.
