PLACENTIA (CBS) — Police Tuesday night searched for two robbers, who were caught on camera holding up a Wells Fargo inside a Placentia grocery and then ditching a dye pack moments before it exploded.
The video depicts a man wearing a gray sweatshirt, baseball cap and glasses — one of two men who robbed a Wells Fargo Bank inside a Stater Brothers Monday afternoon.
According to Placentia Police, the two men walked up to a teller’s window and demanded money.
One of the men, whose face cannot be seen on camera, had his hand inside a blue cloth bag simulating a gun. He threatened the teller to give him money or else get shot.
The teller complied and handed over a bag of money that also included a dye pack.
As the men ran out of the store and through the parking lot, they found the dye pack and threw it into the bushes. The dye pack exploded, sending a pink cloud of smoke into the air.
A shopper in an SUV can be seen in the video backing up, apparently to avoid the growing cloud of pink dye.
The men took off in a black Ford F-250 pickup truck. It’s the same truck placed at two other bank robberies in Orange County within the past month, according to police.
On November 3, the men hit a U.S. Bank branch inside a Vons store on PCH in Seal Beach, police said. On October 25, A U.S. Bank on West Imperial Highway was the target.
In each case investigators will not say how much money the robbers got away with.
