LOS ANGELES (CBS)— With the crippled economy and rising unemployment rate, the turkey giveaway comes at a time when the need is at an all-time high across Southern California.

For the fourth year in a row, the Los Angeles Convention Center and ARAMARK, the convention center’s exclusive food service and catering partner, are handing out 2,000 free turkeys to local families.

Butterball has donated over 1,000 tasty turkeys. This event has quickly become the city’s largest Thanksgiving turkey distribution.

In order to receive a turkey, recipients must present a voucher to snag their free bird.

Think of all the trouble these people went to to A. Get a voucher, B. get to the stadium, C. stand in line for who knows how long….when Vons had turkeys for $7.00… all they had to do was go out and pick up a few cans and bottles and cash them in. That would have been more productive than standing like a bunch of useless drones out in the cold with their kids whining and freezing….absolutely ridiculous…

Wendy, you need to speak about what you know or shut the H*ll up.

You obviously have never recycled anything for money. I drink a lot of water and recycle the empty bottles. It takes about 200 bottles to get $5.00

Also, did anyone call on you to donate to this cause or are you offering?

And for you information stupid in order to get the $7.00 turkey at Von’s you have to spend $25 first.

Well one thing for sure you won’t have any problems cooking your turkey. All you have to do is open your mouth and all the hot air will cook it in no time.

My thing is there are too many people that will attend every free giveaway there is in town, Not taking into consideration that there are many in the same boat, so some will get helped out like 4-5 times, while other’s that need it will get nothing. Some accountablitiy should be put into place.

There are so many people living in poverty that they feel its necessary to get in line for a free turkey. Wendy….be thankful that you don’t have to do that….not yet anyway.
