Child Dragged By Hit-And-Run Driver In Pomona

POMONA (CBS) — An 8-year-old girl was struck by a hit-and-run driver and dragged several feet Friday near the intersection of Garey Avenue and Phillips Boulevard.

Los Angeles County Fire responded to the scene at 3:10 p.m.

Police say the driver of the 1997 Honda Accord, Tanya Bernal, was trying to leave the scene and was being stopped by area residents when officers arrived.

Bernal, 24, had initially struck a vehicle near the intersection and left the scene, say police. She then drove south on Garey, where her car hit a second vehicle, jumped the curb, and hit the pedestrian child.

The girl was reportedly dragged under the car for about 50 feet. Police said Bernal's vehicle finally came to rest after it hit a parked car nearby.

The victim was airlifted to a hospital with injuries that appeared to be minor.

Bernal was arrested and booked for felony hit and run and driving without a license. She is being held at the Pomona Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
