Ex-NFL Champ Loses Super Bowl Ring, Diamond Watches In Encino Break-In

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Police on Thursday asked for the public's help in capturing two men suspected in a string of burglaries in the San Fernando Valley that may have cost one former NFL champ a priceless heirloom.

The duo is suspected of burglarizing homes in Encino by kicking down doors and breaking through windows.

Their latest victims are former Chicago Bears wide receiver and Super Bowl champion Willie Gault and his wife Susan.

Police photos show the burglars moved quickly through Gault's property, emptying drawers and closets.

An estimated $200,000 in property was taken, including a 1986 Super Bowl ring, diamond watches, jewelry and other family heirlooms.

"One of the items they stole was a loaded gun, and if I came in and an altercation happened, I could not be sitting here," Gault said.

"You don't think they're going to be so brazen as to go in the front of the house, break open a window, go in, get as much as they can, and leave," wife Susan said. "They took a suitcase and filled it up."

The same two suspects are believed to be behind other midday burglaries in the area as well.
