Pepperdine Stuns Arizona State, 66-60

TEMPE, Ariz (CBS) -- Marty Wilson wasted no time in pulling in his first signature win as Peppedine's head coach, as the Waves shocked the Arizona State Sun Devils on Tuesday night in Tempe, 66-60.

Pepperdine (2-0) came out firing against ASU's matchup-zone defense, knocking home their first six three-point attempts of the game to build a double-digit lead.

ASU (1-1), playing without five-star recruit, point guarf Jahii Cason, who is still waiting to be cleared academically by the NCAA really struggled in their first loss of the season, playing three players at the point, including walk-on, Max Heller.

Sun Devils head coach Herb Sendek even changed his defense to man-to-man to try to stop the Waves attack, something Sendek hasn't done in his tenure in Tempe, but nothing seemed to be in sync for the Sun Devils.

ASU who trailed by double-digits most of the game, cut the lead to five points with 40 seconds to go on a three-pointer by Trent Lockett, but Pepperdine put the game away with free throws.

Lockett, who had 23 points told the AP after the game," it's extremely disappointing. We have to improve in a lot of different areas to have the type of season we had hoped for coming into the season."

Former Mater Dei star Keala King was held to just two points for ASU.

The Waves shot 8-11 from behind the three-point line.
