Santa Clarita Football Coach Arrested For Alleged Sex With Student, 15

SANTA CLARITA (CBS) — A football coach at a Santa Clarita high school was arrested Friday for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl.

KNX 1070's Vytas Safronikas reports Nicolas Ovendale, 20, was taken into custody at his home by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's detectives.

Ovendale first became acquainted with the teenager while serving as an assistant coach on the freshman football team at Hart High School in Valencia.

"Officials [at the school] notified the sehriff's department that they had become aware of some inappropriate conduct between one of their assistant football coaches and a student at the high school," said Sgt. Brian Hudson of the sheriff's Special Victims Bureau.

The two allegedly had "sexual intercourse and oral copulation" during late October 2011 while they were inside Ovendale's parked vehicle, Hudson said.

Ovendale was booked at the sheriff's Santa Clarita Valley Station on one count of lewd acts with a child and one count of unlawful sexual intercourse.

His bail was set at $50,000.
