Loyola Marymount Shocks #17 UCLA To Open Hoops Season

LOS ANGELES (CBS) -- Loyola Marymount has the first upset of the college basketball season, upsetting #17 UCLA at the Sports Arena on Friday night 69-58.

The win for the Lions is their third ever win against UCLA and first since 1941.

UCLA had defeated the Lions the previous 12 meetings.

LMU won just 11 games last year and were without all-WCC selection Drew Viney.

The Bruins, who beat Cal State San Bernadino 80-72 in an exhibition game, were just 2-15 from three-point range, while the Lions knocked down 10-15.

Ashley Hamilton led the Lions with 23 points, while Anthony Ireland poured in 21.

Josh Smith was held to just five points for UCLA.
