Sheriff's Deputy Injured During Pursuit In Mission Viejo

MISSION VIEJO (CBS) — An Orange County sheriff's deputy on a motorcycle, who was chasing another motorcycle rider, was injured Tuesday after crashing into a car in Mission Viejo.

The chase started on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway near Oso Parkway about 11:50 a.m. when a California Highway Patrol officer saw two speeding motorcycles. One rider pulled over but the other one kept going, according to sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino.

The CHP officer stayed the rider who stopped, and backup officers lost track of the other rider near Moulton Parkway, Amormino said. Moments later, a sheriff's deputy on a motorcycle, who was unaware of the CHP pursuit, saw the
suspect speeding on Alicia Parkway and went after him.

Amormino said the deputy on the motorcycle crashed into the back of a Toyota Camry.

The suspect was eventually caught on foot near Del Cerro Elementary School and taken into custody. The suspect's name was unavailable.

The injured officer was taken to a hospital for a possible leg fracture.
