Rapper Heavy D Dead At 44

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Rapper Heavy D has died at the age of 44.

Police responded to the 400 block of Maple Drive around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday on a report of a man who had collapsed in the walkway of an apartment complex, the Beverly Hills Police Department said.

The rapper, who's real name is Dwight Arrington Myers, was found conscious, but struggling to breathe.

Myers was pronounced dead at 1 p.m. It is unknown how he died.

Myers was the lead member of the group Heavy D & the Boyz which rose to fame for the theme song for "In Living Color" and "MADtv."

Myers also appeared in several television shows and movies, including most recently, "Tower Heist" with Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller and "Law & Order: SVU."

Myers was born on May 24, 1967 in Jamaica.
