Police: Rancho Cucamonga Cars, Shops Shot Up In BB Gun Attacks

SAN BERNARDINO (CBS) — Vandals armed with BB guns are likely behind multiple shot-out windows of cars and businesses in San Bernardino County, police said Tuesday.

Windows of at least 40 cars in Rancho Cucamonga and Claremont have been shattered since Monday evening, along with over two dozen reports of broken store windows, police said.

Rancho Cucamonga police Sergeant Keith Proctor said the attacks are becoming a huge annoyance for local residents and business owners.

Police estimate the vandals have caused more than $20,000 in damage.

"They're trying to get up in the morning and they're trying to get to work, and they're having to call the boss and say, 'Hey, I'm going to be late, I'm waiting for the police to get out here to take a report, to conduct an investigation,'" said Proctor.

A suspect or suspects between the ages of 16 and 25 who enjoy damaging other people's property are likely behind the vandalism, Proctor added.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Rancho Cucamonga police department at (909) 941-1488.
