Fullerton Officers Accused In Kelly Thomas' Death Attend Court Hearing

FULLERTON (CBS) — The Fullerton police officers charged in the beating death of a 37-year-old homeless man appeared in court Friday.

In September, 37-year-old Manuel Ramos pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in the death of Kelly Thomas. Jay Cicinelli, 39, also pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter and excessive force.

Ramos, a 10-year Fullerton Police Department veteran, faces up to 15 years to life in prison if convicted.

He's being held on $1 million bail.

Thomas died following a violent confrontation with six officers who were responding to reports of car burglaries at the Fullerton Transportation Center on July 5.

All six were placed on unpaid leave, but Ramos and Cicinelli are the only two facing charges.

They were ordered to return to court next month.
