5 Shot In South LA, Suspects At Large

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The LAPD is asking for the public's help in locating a group of men who shot five victims late Thursday in South Los Angeles.

Police say the men were shot shortly after 11 p.m. while riding their bicycles home from work.

As the victims approached the intersection of East 43rd Street and Long Beach Avenue, a group of six suspects stood on the corner.

"Two of those individuals out of the group pulled out handguns and fired several shots at the victims," says Sergeant Dino Caldera of the LAPD.

The suspects then ran into a waiting vehicle.

A 911 call led officers to five victims and 25 shell casings.

It is unclear why the suspects opened fire. Investigators believe the victims were innocent bystanders.

Police are not releasing the names of the victims, who range in age from 26 to 32-years-old. All five men are in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds. One is in critical yet stable condition.

Detectives have very little information about the armed suspects. LAPD investigators at the Newton Division are turning to residents and nearby businesses for leads.
