Glen Avon Brush Fire Damages Several Homes

GLEN AVON (CBS) — A brush fire damaged several homes Wednesday morning in Riverside County.

The approximately two-acre fire was first reported at 9:09 a.m. It initially started burning in a field near Van Buren Boulevard & Jurupa Avenue.

Riverside County Fire officials say one structure was heavily damaged. One resident told CBS 2's Greg Mills that power lines went down near the home shortly before the house was engulfed in flames. Two dogs was killed in the blaze.

At least two other homes suffered moderate damage, officials said.

Several people have been taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation, fire officials said.

Officials have not said how the fire began.

Strong winds have prompted a red flag warning for much of Southern California Wednesday.
