RENO, Nev. (AP) — Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says Mitt Romney’s recent comments about the foreclosure crisis show he’s out of touch with middle-class Americans.

Romney told the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s editorial board that he wants to allow home foreclosures to “hit the bottom” to help the housing industry recover.

In a speech to Washoe County Democrats in Reno on Friday night, Villaraigosa said Romney’s remarks show he does not want to help “responsible homeowners who have been scammed by lenders” or “middle-class families who – through no fault of their own – have hit hard times.”

Villaraigosa says the remarks are another sign that Romney and other Republican presidential candidates have lost touch with the middle class.

Nevada has the country’s highest foreclosure rate and highest unemployment rate.

How would he know? He lives in a house paid for with tax dollars, is driven around in a car paid for by tax dollars, according to his own statement has taken more than 100 furloughs days off, and has LAPD provide his security when he does show up to work (mostly parties, concerts, and events paid for by others). This is not a middle-class lifestyle. The Mayor needs to take a look in the mirror, he’s done as much damage to the middle class worker in L.A. since he took office as anyone else he’s taking shots at.

Very well said Pauline. Tony V. the ” HYPOCRITE” is talking out of both sides of his mouth.

We need a MAJOR change in the PAY and BENEFITS for all our elected and government officials/employees.

First, NO living quarters, car allowances or medical benefits. They should be able to live off of and pay for their own auto and medical needs with their inflated pay. Second, only retirement benefits comparable to Social Security limits. They can invest a portion of their pay, just like the commoners do.

This is only a good start and any other suggestions are welcomed.
