Chargers Put OLB Larry English On IR With foot Inury

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- San Diego Chargers outside linebacker Larry English was placed on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday with a broken left foot.

It's the latest setback for English, who hasn't lived up to being the team's 2009 first-round draft pick. He had surgery on the same foot last year.

To take his spot on the active roster, the Chargers signed tackle Stephen Schilling from the practice squad. The team also re-signed running back Jordan Todman to the practice squad.

General manager A.J. Smith didn't return a call seeking comment on English.

It wouldn't be surprising if the Chargers give up on the linebacker.

Asked about English last spring, Smith said: "We've had some guys struggle with some injuries. Hopefully they'll get healthy and contribute. If you're not healthy, it's going to make it hard to help yourself with the team. Larry has had some injuries and some surgeries and some struggles."

English had two sacks in five games this year, both against the Miami Dolphins. He was inactive for the opener. English had seven sacks total in 29 games in three seasons.

The Chargers (4-2) visit the defending AFC West champion Kansas City Chiefs (3-3) on Sunday.
