Family Devastated After Thieves Steal Their Grandmother's Ashes
WOODLAND HILLS (CBS) — A family is devastated after their grandmother's ashes were stolen at the Westfield Promenade Mall Monday night.
The family was stopping for dinner at the Woodland Hills shopping center and returned to find their SUV looted. Thieves had stolen their luggage which contained a box with the ashes of their grandmother, Betty Weikert.
"You can just imagine having your car broken into is frustrating enough, but all their luggage missing and of course the ashes of my deceased grandmother is just unimaginable," said Matt Powell.
Weikert's ashes were in a brown box wrapped in a white plastic bag. The family was planning to fly her ashes back to the East Coast later that night so she could be reunited with her husband's ashes.
