ONTARIO (AP) — A woman who authorities say was set on fire by her ex-boyfriend has died in San Bernardino County.
Ontario police Sgt. David McBride says police and firefighters responded to a report of something burning early Saturday at an apartment complex in the city. When they arrived they found bystanders trying to help a woman who was badly burned. The woman was taken to a hospital where she died Monday morning.
McBride says information from the scene indicated the woman had been set on fire by her ex-boyfriend.
Within hours, Hector Javier Meza was arrested in Perris on suspicion of attempted murder.
McBride says the county district attorney’s office is reviewing the case and is expected to charge Meza with murder.
A motive for the attack is not known.
