LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Los Angeles police are investigating shots fired by an officer Sunday in South Los Angeles.
The shooting occurred in the 10200 block of South Main Street, Officer Karen Rayner of the Los Angeles Police Department said.
“Officers were responding to a shooting in progress,” Rayner said.
“Upon arrival officers located the shooting victim and an officer-involved shooting occurred.”
Two people have been taken to hospitals.
Edward Lawrence, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, says the victim and the suspect are both in stable condition.
Lawrence reported that several 911 calls reached police just before 5 p.m.
Witnesses said they heard shots being fired inside a building next door to the Tabernacle of Faith Baptist Church.
When officers arrived they said they encountered a man with a gun who refused their order to drop it.
