Torrance-Based Company Recalls Yamaya Masago Amid Listeria Concerns

TORRANCE (AP) — Yamaya USA, Inc. is recalling its Yamaya Masago because it may be contaminated with listeria.

The Torrance-based company says the masago, labeled "Item No. 09867" was distributed to retail stores in Los Angeles, Baltimore, Atlanta, and Mexico.

No illnesses have been reported.

The company says the contamination was discovered during microbiological sampling of the facility by the Food and Drug Administration. Yamaya says it has ceased production and distribution of the product as it and the FDA continue an investigation into what caused the problem.

Consumers who purchased the product are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Listeria is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.
