Angry Shareholders, 'Occupy' Protesters Greet CEO Murdoch At Fox Studios

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Hundreds of protesters swarmed outside Fox Studios on Friday as the company's shareholders held their first meeting in the wake of a highly-publicized phone hacking scandal.

KNX 1070's John Brooks reports News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch faced tough opposition from both inside and outside the studio walls.

The 80-year-old Australian media mogul is under pressure to step down the phone hacking scandal at the now-defunct News of the World tabloid magazine in July.

But many of the protesters outside the studios — some of whom carried anti-Murdoch signs such as "Fire the Murdoch Mafia" — appeared even more opposed to Fox News, which they said is biased and gives too much money to Republican candidates.

One of the protesters' demands: a pledge from News Corp. to refrain from any additional political spending on the 2012 elections.

"We believe in letting a thousand flowers bloom, so we're not opposed to Fox News being a conservative outlet," said Dave Saldana with a group called Free Press. "That really doesn't matter to us quite so much as Fox News colludes with politicians."

A variety of other activist groups took part in the rally, including OccupyLA, Media Matters for America, Good Jobs LA, National Lawyers Guild and others to demand that "News Corp. shareholders make company executives and the board accountable to U.S. law and the public interest".
