City Hall Protesters Hunker Down, May 'Occupy' Until Winter

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — As protesters at City Hall near the end of their second week in what has become a nationwide phenomenon, more people are asking just how long their "occupation" will last.

KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reports the Occupy LA movement could gain even more momentum in coming weeks.

While many protesters have been camped out only for a couple of days, others expect the size of the protest will increase as part of the International Day Of Action on Saturday, which may include marches on the city's financial district.

Lance Robertson, who has been at the site intermittently since Oct.1, said an end to the protest is nowhere in sight.

"I think that people are pretty committed to staying as long as it takes, and what it takes is sort of nebulous because everything in the world is up for renegotiation right now," said Robertson.

Some protesters are even open to commuting.

"If I could stand up for the ethics of the cause, I'd go back and forth," said one man. "I live close."

As many as 400 protesters have made an effort to keep the lawn outside City Hall clean, putting trash into containers and utilizing donated portable restrooms.

And with city lawmakers officially voicing their support for the movement, Occupy LA may not even consider leaving until December at the earliest.
