Neighbors Of Salon Owner Stunned By Deadly Shooting

By KCAL9's Greg Mills

MURRIETA (CBS) — The deadly Seal Beach shooting rampage has a strong connection to the Inland Empire's city of Murrieta, where Salon Meritage owner Randy Fannin owned a home with his wife.

Fannin was killed in his salon Wednesday along with eight other people. One victim remained in critical condition Thursday.

Fannin's Neighbors Thursday were stunned by the news of his murder.

He and his wife had moved into a home in Murrieta in a development called The Greens when it opened about a decade ago. They moved into what had been a model home and were among the first residents in the development.

A neighbor told us that Randy's wife Sandy Fannin had called friends in Temecula to let them know she was OK.

Neighbors said the Fannin's did not spend much time at their Murrieta home recently, mostly staying in Seal Beach.

We also spoke with a longtime client and friend of the Fannin's, Kristin Butler.

"My mom had an appointment yesterday at 4 p.m. So depending on timing my mother would have been there as well," said Butler, who was at the Fannin's home to bring flowers.

She said that was not only a client of Fannin's for 20 years, but she also considered him and his wife close friends.

"Words can't even express the horror that I feel for what Sandy is going through, what they've seen, what Sandy saw. My heart goes out to their entire family," Butler said.

She said she knew immediately that Randy was one of the victims, as soon as she saw the story on the news, because she said that Randy was the type to take action and go after the gunman.

"Randy is a special, special, special soul. Very special," she said.
