FULLERTON (CBS) — A 4-year-old driver (yup, you read that right) who managed to climb into the driver’s seat of his mother’s car escaped serious injury Thursday, despite a rollover, police said.
The 27-year-old mother stopped at the Summit House restaurant parking lot at 200 E. Bastanchury Road about 5 p.m. to make a brief telephone call, Fullerton police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said.
Somehow her son got out of his car seat, into the driver’s seat and put the car into gear. He also managed to drive out of the lot to southbound State College Boulevard, Goodrich said.
The car sideswiped one car and then veered into the northbound lanes before completely rolling over — at least once — and crashing into some trees, Goodrich said.
The car ended up on the east side of State College Boulevard just north of Yorba Linda Boulevard, Goodrich said.
The boy was slightly injured and taken to a hospital as a precaution, Goodrich said.
