Authorities In Downey Release Details Of Fatal OIS
DOWNEY (CBS) — Authorities Thursday released details about a fatal OIS in Downey.
The shooting happened Wednesday evening just before 7 p.m. at Firestone Boulevard and Old River School Road, according to the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.
Authorities said Downey police officers were assisting the Downey Fire Department in putting out a palm tree fire near the railroad tracks when they encountered a man.
When they began to question the man if he had any knowledge of the fire, they said he raised a stick and then pulled a knife and charged at the officers.
Both officers opened fire on the man.
The unidentified man was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
