While flights of of small piston aircraft have been cut in half, the number of private jets and helicopters has increased, with 62 helicopters based out of Van Nuys.

Los Angeles World Airports wants the public to help provide operational guidelines for the next five years — which may give local residents a chance to finally have their voices heard.

"There's a lot of noise from the airplanes, and that is disturbing," said one woman. "Nighttime, I think, is the most annoying."

Residents may visit the airport's website to provide comments and feedback for the creation of a noise exposure map before Nov. 9.

Previous mapping projects have helped the airport agency target where to spend millions of dollars to soundproof more than 1,000 nearby homes.
