SANTA ANA (AP) — A former U.S. Marine convicted of three murders in Illinois has made his first court appearance in California to face charges that he killed five more women.
Andrew Urdiales, 47, was brought before Orange County Superior Court Judge Craig Robison on Friday but his arraignment was postponed to Dec. 1.
Urdiales is accused of murders that occurred between 1986 and 1995 in Riverside, Orange and San Diego counties. He was extradited from Illinois this week.
The parents of victim Robbin Brandley watched the proceeding. Jack and Genelle Reilley expressed relief that Urdiales was finally in California custody.
Urdiales’ public defender, Lews Clapp, had no comment.
