Utah's Rough Start May Get Worse Without QB Wynn
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Junior-college transfer Jon Hays will start at quarterback for Utah on Saturday against Arizona State after tests confirmed Jordan Wynn will be out two to three weeks with a left shoulder injury.
School officials said Monday that Wynn would be re-evaluated to determine whether he will be able to play again this season.
Hays played the second half of Saturday's 31-14 loss to Washington, completing 10 of 16 passes for 156 yards. He had an interception and a touchdown.
His backup will be freshman Tyler Shreve.
The Utes (2-2, 0-2) had hoped to contend for the Pac-12 South title but are winless in conference play and now face a Sun Devils team that has climbed to No. 22 in the rankings thanks to a 4-1 start.
