Moreno Valley Cyclist, 74, Killed After Being Hit By Truck

MORENO VALLEY (CBS) — A  74-year-old Moreno Valley bicyclist suffered fatal injuries Sunday morning when a truck hit him, the sheriff’s department said.

Vernon Slade was killed in the collision reported at 3:27 a.m. in the 13100 block of Heacock Street, just north of Atwood Avenue, in Moreno Valley, sheriff’s Sgt. Jacqueline Horton said.

Slade was struck by a Dodge Ram truck that was traveling northbound on Heacock Street, Horton said.

He was taken to Riverside County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:56 a.m., according to the coroner’s office.

The driver of the truck was cooperative and did not sustain any injuries, Horton said.

    Gotta feel for everyone touched by this … the driver, the bicycle rider … the police and all the medical folks … one might wonders what such an old man was doing riding along at 3:30am? … not that it matters much …

      Riding around in the early morning is odd for someone his age…I would guess. One would think there would be less traffic and safer.

    that’s too late (or early) to be out walking or riding a bike…it’s dangerous or you could be a victim of crime. You gotta stay home where it’s safe. RIP
