I don’t know about you, but I need a vacation.
Having entertained my kids for two solid summer months, prepping them for back-to-school, GOING back-to-school, and getting back into the groove of homework, activities and endlessly driving car full of kids around town from day to night has just left me completely exhausted.
And I need a break. So do my other mom friends. Sure, it would be great to be able to board a plane and wave bye-bye to responsibility for even just a weekend. But unfortunately, for a mom, getting away just isn’t that easy.
Enter our brilliant idea – a Mom Day Escape. Luckily, you don’t need to board a plane or drive for hours to get away in Los Angeles. Plenty of hotels and spas in the area offer a haven of peace and serenity – at least until the school bell rings.
We recently spent such a day at The Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills. And it was glorious.
We sat by the beautiful (and quiet!) pool sipping Mojitos with handfuls of fresh mint, nibbling fresh tortilla chips and guacamole poolside and catching up on the latest school gossip. Even though we were less than ten minutes from our children’s school, it felt like we were miles away.
If there is one thing the Montage knows how to do best, it’s indulge the clientele. The service and facilities at The Montage are impeccable. From the decadent amenities (they served us complimentary miniature mint juleps and fresh fruit smoothies while they moved my umbrella like a sun dial throughout the day) to the extra details they offer (on busy days they have a roaming massage therapist who serves up poolside reflexology) we soaked up the sun feeling like royalty.
The people at the Montage have gone out of their way to make it possible for parents to come and unwind with their “exclusive” childcare program, “Paintbox.” Paintbox is more than childcare. It’s like day camp! They have supervised activities for children ages 5 through 12 that include stuff like playing in the garden and relay races in the ballroom (when it’s not in use). A half day at Paintbox is $60/per child and includes full lunch. A full day is $90/per child or you could also opt for the hourly rate of $20/per child.
Their “Day of Indulgence” package can be purchased for $200/per person. This package includes a 60 minute treatment in their world-renowned spa, all-day access to the rooftop pool, AND a $30 credit toward lunch at the Conservatory – their amazing rooftop restaurant (I recommend the burger and fries). Purchasing this package also includes access to their “Paintbox” program.
Another option is “Pampered Parents.” This package simply involves booking ANY treatment in their spa and they will GIVE you 2 hours of Paintbox services! Who can’t melt into a massage knowing their little one is being entertained so thoroughly?
And if you really feel like indulging with your girlfriends, The Montage also offers a “Soiree” package for groups. This option is popular for bridal showers, but why not gather up a group of your well-deserving Mom Friends and treat yourselves? For $225 per person (for groups of 8-15 guests) this package includes champagne for each guest upon arrival, your choice of one 60 minute Spa treatment per guest, lunch or afternoon tea in their private relaxation lounge with fireplace, a Spa Hostess gift for each guest and a commemorative monogrammed Spa Montage robe for the guest of honor.
Oh…and did I mention The Montage validates? Valet parking for the day at the hotel will only cost you $8.00. Anywhere in Los Angeles, that’s a pretty good deal.
The most beautiful part of a Mom Day Escape at the Montage Hotel? After enjoying the the day with my friends, soaking in the beautiful Jacuzzi, eating delicious food and just chilling poolside, I took the elevator downstairs, hopped into my car at the valet and made it to pick-up at the kids’ school before the bell even rang.
When my kids asked me “How was your day?” I divulged nothing and simply answered “Heavenly.” And it was.
