Author Helen Benedict Discusses New Book: 'Sand Queen'

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Author and Columbia professor Helen Benedict visited the KCAL 9 studios Thursday.

Benedict is in town promoting her new book, "Sand Queen."

Helen is an award-winning author of six novels and five books of nonfiction. Her new novel, "Sand Queen," tells the story of a young female soldier stationed at a prison camp in Southern Iraq, and her complex relationship with an Iraqi woman whose sickly father and 13 year-old brother are being held there.
