Officials Search For Roadside Robbers Targeting Inland Empire Motorists

INLAND EMPIRE (CBS) — Authorities are investigating several roadside robberies that have occurred on Inland Empire freeways over the past month, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officials say the nine incidents happened during the early morning hours of Sept. 18 and 19.

"There were a number of incidents on the inland freeways where disabled motorists were approached and robbed by a group of suspects," CHP Officer Daniel Hesser told KNX 1070's Vytas Safronikas.

The crimes, which all occurred at gunpoint, happened on I-15, I-10, I-210, and the 91 Freeway in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

The victims describe the suspects as three to four male Hispanics wearing hooded sweatshirts.

They say the suspects drove a white, full size, regular cab pickup truck with a utility bed and rack, a red Honda Accord, or a tan Honda or Hyundai sedan during the robberies.

Officials believe the same men are also responsible for two freeway shootings and two armed robberies in Mentone and Redlands.

No incidents have occurred since Sept. 19, CHP officials said.

Several agencies including the California Highway Patrol, Redlands Police Department, and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department are working together to find the suspects.

Anyone with information should call the California Highway Patrol, Inland Division Investigative Services Unit at (909) 388-8000.
