Would-Be Beer Thieves Now Find Themselves In Hot Water

COVINA (CBS) — Three would be beer-thieves, all 19, are now in hot water with the law after a failed heist in Covina Wednesday.

Police say friends Nicholas Kalscheuer, Nicholas Fiumetto and Andy Huynh went to the Baja Ranch Market at 3 p.m. with the intention of stealing two 30-packs of Tecate beer.

While Huynh stayed in the getaway vehicle, the other two entered the market and attempted to steal, according to officials.

Employees were able to tackle and detain Kalscheuer while Fiumetto fled.

An employee was able to grab onto the hood and helped cause the driver to crash the vehicle into a curb after a 150-yard drive.  To avoid capture, Fiumetto ran into a car wash next door. Police found him covered in soap suds and bubbles.

Meanwhile, officials said Huynh was able to commander the vehicle after crashing. Police say he accidentally lets his wallet and ID in the car. They contacted him by phone and reportedly convinced him to turn himself in.

All three face several felonies including robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and a charge of resisting arrest.

Police said they have surveillance tape of the alleged crime but are not releasing it at this time.
