LONG BEACH (CBS) — Long Beach police believe they have found the getaway van linked to a 2010 cold case murder.
Police say the van may be connected to the robbery and murder of Franklin Robles outside of a Long Beach auto body shop on the afternoon of Aug. 9 2010.
Officials say an anonymous tipster called police and told them where to find the getaway car.
Detectives recovered the van just before it was destroyed at a salvage yard in Chula Vista.
Detectives say the van is the same one spotted in security video leaving the crime scene.
Officials are processing the vehicle for DNA, fingerprints and other forensic evidence.
Long beach police released two suspect sketches last week in hopes they would lead them to new clues in the cold case murder.
Officials say the suspects are two of the four men who may also be responsible for a burglary at the Lake Elsinore home of Robles just hours after his death.
Police now hope they will receive additional leads from the public.
