Funeral Scheduled For Former NBA Player Who Spent Decade Homeless In Hollywood
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A funeral is scheduled in Southern California for a former 6-foot-11 UNLV basketball center who was part of the Runnin' Rebels NCAA Final Four team in 1977 and played briefly with the NBA's Washington Bullets.
Services are set for Lewis Brown at noon Thursday at St. Albert the Great Church in Compton, Calif. Brown's sister, Anita Brown Campbell, tells the Los Angeles Times that Brown spent the last 10 years living on the streets of Hollywood, and died Sept. 14 after a heart attack. He was 56.
Brown was a high school basketball star at Los Angeles Verbum Dei, and was named California Southern Section 4-A player of the year in 1972 and 1973. He was the first back-to-back recipient of the award since it began in 1938.
